With the Paris Agreement in force, never has the collective global ambition to reverse the effects of climate change been more clear, or the risk of standing still felt more keenly. But with Brexit looming large and a lack of clear political leadership or legislation about how to get there, the route to a sustainable future is incredibly complex and still far from mapped.

From setting strategies and targets to implementation and delivery, success will require UK businesses to take the lead in driving real change and edie Live 2017 has been specifically engineered to provide the insight, information and inspiration to make that happen.

New on the floor on May 23-24 next year will be a dedicated Water Retail Zone, providing visitors the opportunity to meet the water retailers and brokers that can help you save money and save water in a new open retail market.

We’re also introducing a Sustainable Procurement Zone based on visitor feedback from this year. More than 1,000 visitors told us they weren’t just looking for technology and service solutions, they also wanted to source more sustainable products, that they can invest in immediately to drive their sustainability credentials forward. From paper and printers to biodegradable products, greener cleaning and office furniture, the zone brings the best sustainable products together.

Plus, new for 2017 is the Low Carbon Vehicle Zone. From electric vehicles and charging options to driver optimisation systems and software, this zone is dedicated to greening the fleet and driving down your organisation’s emissions and carbon footprint.

Back by popular demand are our one-to-one advice clinics across a host of topics. Visitors can book their individual sessions in advance and benefit from tailored, expert advice free of charge.

And of course, there’s our content programme. There are four theatres for 2017 including the edie Live keynote covering strategy and innovation and three seminar theatres dedicated to energy efficiency, resource efficiency and onsite generation, energy storage and demand response. The full programmes will be published in the new year, but we’ll be covering everything from the mega trends and socio-economics (how do you engage with millennials?) to skills and behaviour change; practical application case studies to war stories about what went wrong and how to avoid making the same mistakes.

edie Live 2017: What’s your biggest challenge?

The event wouldn’t be the massive success it is without the hundreds of companies that are there to showcase the products, services and approaches that can help you hit your targets, reduce your impact and drive your sustainability strategies forward.

They are there to address the major issues, concerns and challenges that you face in your day-to-day roles and to help you shape the future direction of your initiatives. We asked a few of them to share what they thought were the biggest challenges currently and how they can help you overcome them.

Steve Malkin, founder of The Planet Mark

“We are in the middle of a revolution. We are getting to grips with the challenges and opportunities presented by big data, technology, corporate ethics and climate change – all against a background of huge economic uncertainty. The business models and systems that we have relied upon are changing, some to the extent that they are no longer sustainable. We connect mission and values with the way companies operate and the brands they are responsible for. Without that connection we believe they are at risk.”

Richard Gueterbock, director, Clearfleau

“Creating a more circular economy must be part of post Brexit Britain, including decentralised renewable energy for industrial sites.  British engineers are developing novel renewable technologies but they need more sustained Government support.  Clearfleau is contributing to this challenge – delivering on-site bio-energy from a range of bio-degradable manufacturing byproducts.”

Bastien Renart, owner, Typeco Software

“As businesses are still struggling to overcome the economic crisis, a way of increasing margins is to drop useless sunk costs. Typeco Software enables organisations to reach this goal by cutting by around a quarter printing ink consumption, reducing its costs and environmental impacts.”

Stuart Forsyth, media manager, E-Serve

“Renewable energy technology is rapidly advancing and organisations seeking to invest in renewable heat may be able to access government schemes like the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive. Ofgem E-serve administers this scheme and our role is to provide clear guidance and excellent customer service to scheme applicants and participants.”

Dr. Yucheng Feng, energy industry manager, FLEXIM

“Regardless of the current challenges in connection with the Brexit, the question of efficient use of energy will remain of prime importance for all companies, both in respect to costs and competitiveness with regard to the European Energy Efficiency Directive. With its non-invasive heat meters, FLEXIM provides the ideal tools to measure fluid-based energy consumptions and to implement energy management systems.”

Tony Fenton, joint managing director, Edina UK

“Established CHP technology provides UK organisations greater security of power supply, reduced energy costs and carbon emissions, delivering long-term energy efficiency and sustainability.  Edina’s leading CHP/Tri-generation and stand-by power solutions deliver high plant efficiency and availability, demand responsive, providing a quicker return on investment, increasing business competitiveness and strategic growth.”

Mark Palmer, managing director, Scenariio Intelligent Infrastructures

“Energy conservation using LED light technology is now a given for any business striving to make energy costs savings. Scenariio and smartengine intelligent lighting solutions can significantly reduce energy costs, measure building occupancy and integrate with HVAC to save heating and cooling inefficiencies. Up to 80% energy savings are possible.”
