Jobs boost as Scottish Water announces capital partners

SCOTTISH WATER has put the first of its framework partners in place for the infrastructure part of its forthcoming Capital Investment Programme. Ten companies have been selected as Construction Delivery Partners (CDPs) to work on infrastructure projects with Scottish Water's in-house delivery vehicle, CID, and its joint venture partnership Scottish Water Solutions.

The ten CDPs comprise Barhale Construction, Byzak, Clancy Docwra, Carillion Water, Farrans Construction, George Leslie, Galliford Try Infrastructure, Mott MacDonald Bentley, Rok Civil Engineering and Rosshire Engineering Services.

Scottish Water’s head of capital programme procurement, Lorna McGregor, said the companies will be the infrastructure framework partners for the next regulatory period. “They have the right skills and resources to meet our future needs in this area,” she said.

Over the past year, Scottish Water has worked on several procurements designed to complement each other, and ensure it has the best fit of contractors to deliver different types of work relative to the capital investment programme.

A separate specialist framework will be put in place for spray lining. More announcements on CDP framework partnership arrangements are expected from Scottish Water soon, with a further two sets of Construction Delivery Partners to be selected to work on each of non-infrastructure and capital maintenance work.

A preferred bidder will be appointed as the prospective joint venture partner to Scottish Water for Scottish Water Solutions 2, the new joint venture partnership delivery vehicle for the next investment period.

Richard Ackroyd, Scottish Water’s chief executive, said: “Scottish Water is supporting between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs in Scotland with £700M being invested last year and a further £700M this year.

The next programme will be more in line with normal delivery programmes, averaging £500M a year.
