Arcadis gets EPA award for excellence in brownfield development

The company received the award for its environmental achievements in developing a 103-acre, mixed use site, named Belmar. The US$560 million project will become the “downtown” area for the city of Lakewood, Colorado’s fourth largest city.

Arcadis utilised a variety of remediation technologies, including in-situ techniques, to revitalise and redevelop the site into a mixed-use urban community on behalf of Continuum Partners. Arcadis received a US$110,000 Brownfield Grant from the city of Lakewood and approximately US$2 million in low-interest loan funds from the US EPA. This is the largest brownfield loan ever issued by the EPA.

“Our early involvement in the evaluation of this brownfield redevelopment project allowed us to provide guaranteed cost confidence to the client, which, in turn, was critical in finalising the deal, securing a large construction loan for the project and negotiating settlements with multiple PRPs,” said Scott Andrews, vice president at Arcadis.

The Phoenix Awards ceremony was presented by the US EPA and the International County Management Association at the Brownfields 2004 conference in St Louis, Missouri.
