The club and its players have called on supporters to recycle their old mobile phones and inkjet printer cartridges to raise money for the Rangers Charity Foundation and its three nominated national charities.

Run in partnership with experts at the Recycling Appeal in Falkirk, the eco-friendly fundraiser will generate cash for the Foundation for every item that is recycled on the day.

According to the Rangers Club, the fundraising potential is massive – there are an estimated 75 million redundant mobile phones in the UK, and every office in the UK uses inkjet cartridges for their printers.

Recycling the old phones will help to divert waste away from landfill and meet government targets. The cartridges will be refilled and re-entered into the consumer stream, while many of the old phones will end up being resold in developing countries where landline infrastructure is scarce.

“I am sure the Rangers fans will get behind this and help to raise money for the Charity Foundation,” Rangers player Fernando Ricksen commented. “There are probably loads of old phones stuck away at the back of drawers and most people use printer cartridges, so fans can genuinely make a difference both to the environment and to worthy causes.”

To offer an extra incentive, supporters joining the effort will be entered into a draw to win Rangers prizes, including a hospitality trip for two next season, a signed shirt and boots and other goodies.

The money raised will be split between Capability Scotland, Revive Scotland and Sense Scotland.
