Within the School of Engineering two established Environmental Centres offer specialised postgraduate training.

The Centre for Environmental Strategy, opened in 1992, is an established research and postgraduate centre and was awarded a 5A grade in the last Research Assessment Exercise, defined as "research of national and international standard". For a multidisciplinary centre, this is a real achievement - recognition of the ability and dedication of everyone who has contributed to the development of CES. The Centre for Environmental Health Engineering (CEHE)is a postgraduate research centre within the Fluids and Reserch Unit of the School of Engineering. CEHE has international expertise and projects covering the entire water cycle. These encompass water resrouces surveillance, modelling and management, water treatment, supply and regulation, wasterwater treatment, disposal and safe reuse, and pollution control and waste management
