Waste Water Screening and Preliminary Treatment

Lecturers: Barry Thompson (Independent Consultant - Thompson RPM)
Roger Marlow (Pump Centre WIMES Co-ordinator)

This is a one-day dedicated Water Industry Course with two principal objectives.

Firstly, it is designed as an introductory guide to the various types of equipment that can be used to:

1. remove relatively large particles (screenings) from wastewater flows at WwTWs and combined sewer overflows (CSOs);

2. process screenings into a form suitable for disposal for WwTWs (eg to landfill sites); and

3. remove grit particles from wastewater flows at WwTWs.

Secondly, it is designed to increase levels of awareness of the Water Industry Mechanical & Electrical Specifications (WIMES) relevant to the above types of equipment and provides guidance on how to implement and interpret these documents (eg completion of DATA SHEETS). This guidance should benefit those engineers/consultants responsible for the procurement of these types of equipment and OEMs alike.

OBJECTIVES AND BENEFITS COURSE PROGRAMME WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The course will allow delegates to:

• Be able to select and specify the correct item of equipment for a given screening or preliminary treatment application;
• Understand how to use and interpret the relevant WIMES correctly.
Topics include:

Overview of the performance and design of various types of:
• Inlet screens
• CSO screens
• Screenings treatment equipment
• Grit removal equipment
Overview of implementation and interpretation of WIMES 5.03, 5.04, 6.03 and 2.02.

This course is aimed at Engineers/Consultants who select/specify screening and preliminary treat equipment in the Water Industry and also at suppliers of these items of equipment who may require increased levels of awareness of relevant WIMES documents.
