Ashbrook Simon-Hartley Gain Iso 14001
20 October 2009, News release from Ashbrook Simon-Hartley Ltd
Ashbrook Simon-Hartley have gained ISO 14001 certification of their Environmental Management System.
Annamarie Plant managed the yearlong process of developing the company's Environmental Management System to ISO 14001:2004 standard and securing certification approval. She says: "Achieving this international standard demonstrates our commitment to operating in an environmentally sustainable manner. It provides assurance to customers and all other stakeholders that we are in control of our processes and activities."
In the run-up to AMP5 water companies are demanding improvement in their suppliers' environmental credentials; some are already specifying they must have, or be actively pursuing this standard. "Water companies want to see suppliers taking the environment as seriously as they are," Annamarie says. She believes Ashbrook Simon-Hartley is leading the way in this regard, as one of the first suppliers of thickening and dewatering equipment in the UK to obtain ISO 14001.
The standard requires organisations to implement a systematic approach to setting environmental objectives, achieving them and demonstrating they have been achieved. Continuous improvement is a key principle and organisations are re-assessed for compliance every three years.
The scope of Ashbrook Simon-Hartley's Environmental Management System covers their Newcastle-under-Lyme HQ, Stoke-on-Trent production facility and their field-force of service engineers. Objectives have been set to reduce fossil fuel consumption, increase re-cycling of paper and re-use of packaging and provide staff awareness training.
Strategically ISO 14001 facilitates the fusion of environmental and business goals too, Annamarie adds. "It integrates environmental considerations with product design and development and the way our services are delivered to customers; for example our promotion of asset refurbishment as a more environmentally sustainable alternative to replacement."
Ashbrook Simon-Hartley's ISO 14001 certificate of approval was authorised on 20th September 2009 by DAS certification Ltd, an UKAS accredited certification body.
