Activated carbon - a panacea in aerosol propellants
Since the demise of CFCs, the majority of aerosol propellants have been based on light hydrocarbon components e.g. propane, butane and iso-butane. Although combinations of these materials have suitable vapour pressure characteristics, they are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which contribute to low level ozone and global warming effects. Hydrocarbons are based on oil and continue to be geo-politically sensitive.
