On Stand P123 in the Main Pavilion Eriez will be exhibiting a self-cleaning version of its Model CP Suspended Permanent Magnet, two different types of aperture metal detectors, including a new high sensitivity unit, as well as a demo version of a primary sampler.
The Eriez CP Magnet has been highly successful in the minerals extraction and processing industries for protecting valuable crushing and screening equipment against tramp metal damage or simply for removing iron from demolition rubble. Many hundreds of units were sold in 2004 with sales anticipated to increase by 25% in 2005. These magnets have been successful for a number of reasons, not least of which for their robust construction, the fact that they require little maintenance, are considerably less expensive and lighter in weight than Suspended Electromagnets (in those cases where a permanent magnet would be equally suitable). Moreover, these magnets can be supplied within a short lead time.
Where large amounts of tramp iron require separation from the conveyed material the self-cleaning option is more practical than the manual clean magnet. With the manual version, the tramp metal has to be removed periodically by hand or with a moveable stripper plate. When a self-cleaning unit is installed it is important to examine the area to ensure that there is adequate clearance for the belt to run and that provision has been made to collect discharged tramp iron.
To complement magnetic separators, Eriez also offers metal detectors to detect ferrous and non-ferrous metals. From its vast portfolio of metal detectors, Eriez will be showcasing, for the very first time at an exhibition, the new Eriez E-Z Tec 9000 RD Metal Detector. The E-Z Tec 9000 Range was launched in 2004 and is already making an impression in the market in terms of new enquiries and orders. The E-Z Tec 9000 RD metal detector features an innovative design which allows the search head to be split into two parts. This enables a simpler installation on existing conveyors without the need for cutting the conveyor belt. As with all the E-Z Tec 9000 models, the unit incorporates high sensitivity, balanced coil technology and features a single PCB for easy servicing and Surface Mount Technology for increased reliability.
For applications where high sensitivity is not so critical, but where a relatively low cost, robust metal detection solution is sought, Eriez will be displaying an alternative: the METALARM Bridge ("BR") Search Coil featuring swing-away top coil and fitted with the METALARM 3500 QM2 Control Unit.
This search coil is recommended for use where burden heights are variable and on belt widths over 1.2 metres wide. Wherever a risk of damage to the top coil is presented by unusually high burdens, this search coil delivers the ideal solution. The swing top coil is manufactured in high density polyethylene, lined with a stainless steel angle to protect the search coil from direct impact.
Whilst the E-Z Tec 9000 Range utilises balanced coil technology the Eriez METALARM Metal Detectors feature pulse induction technology. As such, they are lower in cost, are not prone to "product effect" and are easier to install due to the search coils being custom built to suit the conveyor on which they are to be mounted.
Both the METALARM BR and E-Z Tec 9000 RD metal detectors will be mounted on lightweight conveyor and idler sets to create a more realistic impression of how they would be installed in-situ.
In addition to offering the twin solution of magnetic separators and metal detectors to combat and eradicate the problems of metal contamination, Eriez also provides its customers with sampling equipment and expertise. To this end, a demo-sized version of the successful Eriez Prisecter PRL Sampler will be shown and demonstrated. This simple and robust sampler is designed to sample in-flight particulate material and can typically be installed within modified conveyor head chutes, providing a representative sample of the main stream.
With the pressure on many industries to supply a product which reaches the highest quality specification possible, numerous existing Eriez customers, around the globe, will have a requirement to sample products. Sampling ensures that the quality of the goods they sell or buy meets the stated specification. Some rely on manual sampling techniques, but this approach is open to abuse and to a high incidence of human error and bias.
Eriez, since the acquisition of Prisecter and Birtley sampling technology in 1999 and 2000 respectively, is one of the world's leaders in this technology and specialises in granular and slurry samplers. These are sold as individual units or as components of a complete turnkey sampling system. Automating the sampling process, using proven technology that conforms to international sampling standards, provides the customer with statistically generated data, thereby allowing him to confirm if the material is of the requisite standard (whether sampling is done on the basis of moisture, chemical content or by the product's physical properties). Mechanical (automated) sampling enables prompt reporting of quality changes, information which can then be used to reduce the amount of defective product and limit lost revenue or a reduction in price to the purchaser. Regular sampling and analysis identifies low quality production that can often result in extra costs as a consequence of re-working out-of-spec material. Thus, by sampling, Eriez customers can unveil hidden profits and, over a relatively short period of time, recover the investment they have made in a sampling system.
