Online guide for environmental printing

Hewlett Packard has launched a guide to help small and medium-sized businesses in Ireland limit the environmental impact of their printing activities.

The online guide gives advice to firms encouraging staff to share documents electronically, ensuring printers are set for double-sided printing and implementing recycle schemes for paper and cartridges.

Bruno Zago, environment manager for HP in the UK and Ireland, said: “A lot of firms get into a rut with their process.

“There is a sense that you always print out invoices for customers because that is what they want.

“But if you actually asked the customer, you’ll probably find that as long as they have a receipt they just don’t need a paper invoice too.”

A recent survey by HP showed the majority of firms with under 1,000 employees currently have no green policy and are shunning simple low-cost steps to limit the environmental impact of their printing operations.

Paper supplier Office Depot recently announced its new range of green products including an extensive range of paper with a minimum of 30% recycled content.
