Desalination for Oil and Gas - international online symposia

Desalination & Water Reuse (D&WR), the magazine of the International Desalination Association, announces the latest in the series of international online symposia.

In recent years, the expansion of oil shale and coal seam gas exploitation has created a large new market for desalination and water reuse. For this reason, D&WR has chosen Desalination & Water Reuse for Oil & Gas as the theme for its next event, which takes place in two parts on 23 and 28 January 2014.

These interactive events, held in partnership with the IDA Desalination Academy, enable participants to learn from and question some of the world's leading desalination experts. The innovative format delivers all the value of a physical event, without the need to travel or take a whole day out of your schedule.

The first part of the symposium on 23 January will cover Applications, while the second on 28 January will look at Technologies. Both will feature experts currently working in the oil and gas sector to provide an all-round look at the current techniques and technologies being employed.

Subjects will include treatment and disposal of frac water, flowback and produced water, plus enhanced oil recovery using water and other topical issues. Technologies will include forward osmosis, membrane distillation, humidification/dehumidification and electrochemical conversion.

Presentations will include a series of informative PowerPoint slides along with an audio explanation from the speaker. Following each presentation, the speakers will discuss a selection of questions submitted by symposium participants.

The symposium will be chaired by the editor of D&WR, Robin Wiseman, and confirmed speakers to date include:

Dr John Walsh, Director of Technical Water Treatment, CETCO
Holly Johnson, Process Engineer, Water Standard
Nathan Hancock PHD, Director of Research & Development, Oasys Water
Götz Lange, Chief Executive officer, Memsys
Prakash Govindan, Technologist, Gradiant Corporation
Deane Little, New Sky Energy
