High flying consultant spies new development that turned into a meeting of minds
16 February 2005, News release from ACM plc
WASTE management specialist ACM has won a contract for Radisson SAS Hotels after one of the sharp eyed consultants spied a new building rising out of the ground close to Stansted airport whilst flying into London for a company meeting.
Upon landing he made a couple of quick calls and identified the building as a brand new Radisson SAS Hotel nearing completion. ACM Chairman Barry Bolton then took up the chase and secured an unusual deal.
Barry explained: "Usually we would discuss a clients current waste streams, costs and recycling needs to build a complete picture of how we can save them money whilst improving the quality of the service, helping them to reach their own environmental targets - not something we could do immediately for a brand new building."
"However, as we have a number of clients who operate hotels we took a long hard look at how we had helped each of them and created a model we could use for a brand new hotel. The hotel then committed to an ACM Complete Care Programme that involved the installation of a leak-proof waste compactor for general waste and a twin chamber baler for recyclable materials such as paper, card and plastic. We have implemented a programme of collection and recycling for glass and waste cooking oil as well as a full maintenance and management service." He added.
At the time ACM made contact, the hotel management were reviewing contract options for separate waste compactors, waste management, haulage and disposal.
Ian Weir of Radisson SAS takes up the story: "We were looking at the most cost effective method of achieving our targets. Radisson SAS is a forward thinking organisation and takes its waste management operations very seriously, so much so that hotels are targeted to manage their waste output in line with occupancy and to maximise recycling opportunities. The ACM Complete Care Programme effectively provided all of the services we required to meet our targets at a more competitive price than separate contracts could achieve. Their philosophy of holistic waste management and the Radisson SAS Responsible Business policy seemed to be a meeting of minds. We are delighted to be working with ACM."
"If we can find more contracts like this from the air, perhaps we should be providing helicopters rather than cars for our waste management consultants!" added Barry Bolton.
