Emerson Announces New Rosemount Analytical Sensors for Food and Beverage Industry Applications
23 March 2005, News release from Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Analytical,
Rugged, accurate sensors monitor CIP systems and measure dissolved oxygen in carbonated beverages.
Emerson Process Management has introduced two new Rosemount Analytical sensors with specific applications in the food and beverage market. The Rosemount Analytical Bx438 monitors trace levels of dissolved oxygen in beer and other carbonated beverages, and the Rosemount Analytical Model 245 conductivity sensor is an obstructionless flow-through pipeline sensor for monitoring fluid conductivity, typically used to monitor CIP system performance.
The Rosemount Analytical Bx438 is a sensitive detector for low levels of dissolved oxygen in liquids: careful design enables the Bx438 to provide these accurate readings with a much reduced sensitivity to fluctuating carbon dioxide levels, a significant benefit in breweries and carbonated drinks applications. The rugged design of the new Bx438, with all construction materials on the GRAS approved list, and a significantly stronger membrane, enables it to withstand up to 10x as many clean-in-place (CIP) cycles as previously possible, before any maintenance requirement.
The Model 245 conductivity sensor is completely obstructionless, and is suitable for use even in viscous, abrasive or fibrous liquids. The sensor is available in four sizes, using Tri-Clamp connections from ½" to 2". All wetted materials are GRAS list and FDA CFR21 compliant, and measurements are made using non-contact toroidal sensing coil techniques. The units are typically used for monitoring CIP systems and process flows to ensure water quality and purity.
Both Rosemount Analytical sensors can operate in conjunction with several Rosemount Analytical instruments, such as the Model Xmt and Model 54e Analysers, or the Model 5081 transmitter, which allows HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus digital communications. Such an interface allows incorporation of these sensors and measurements into Emerson PlantWeb® digital plant architecture, to improve manufacturing quality in the regulated industries. Additionally, the online monitoring and diagnostics then available using AMS Suite: Intelligent Device Manager software provides predictive process and sensor health information that PlantWeb delivers to those running the plant, enabling more efficient scheduled and proactive maintenance.
