Environment and Energy Awards contenders unveiled

THE shortlist has been revealed for this year's hotly-contested Environment and Energy Awards which will be handed out in May at a gala event hosted by an Olympic hero.
The list of hopefuls includes high street names such as Marks & Spencer and John Lewis, local authorities from urban giant Birmingham City Council to the more rural setting of Cherwell District Council, transport operations Northern Rail and East Midlands Airport - and big businesses such as JCB Ltd through to Natural England.
The winners will be announced during Sustainabilitylive! 2011, on Tuesday 24th May, at a special black tie evening dinner at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
Olympic medallist and GB swimming team captain Steve Parry - who inflicted a rare defeat on Michael Phelps in the 200m butterfly semi-final at the Athens Olympics - will host an event which recognises excellence and innovation in sustainable business practices.
Organisers Faversham House have seen a record number of entries - up 46% year on year - and there will be 13 categories, including two new additions, the Best Energy-Efficient Refurbishment Award and Best Energy Supplier Customer Service Award.
