Swiss tighten-up recycling after dioxin scare from Belgian bottle bank bodge
The Swiss Government has tightened controls on recycling, following revelations that the dioxin/PCB food contamination scare that brought the Belgian government down at last Sunday's elections may have been due to the use of the wrong container at a public recycling point.
CIRIA to issue small bunds guidance
Following the popularity of its guidance on the design and construction of traditional concrete and masonry bunds for oil tanks (CIRIA Report 163), CIRIA is now working with BSRIA to evaluate the effectiveness of using proprietary prefabricated oil storage tank systems to avoid water pollution problems.

Two former officers of LCP Chemicals, a bankrupt subsidiary of the Hanlin Group, have received long sentences for operating the company's Brunswick, Georgia plant in violation of environmental laws. One officer received the longest US prison term handed down for environmental crimes.
