Since the initial trial to the expansion across the county the scheme has exceeded expectations and is a valuable indicator of best practice in household waste recycling centre, plastic recovery and recycling as this case study shows
New StreetNOx selected for urban air quality monitoring
Air quality monitoring has come a long way since sulphur dioxide bubblers were first introduced, to monitor smogs, in the 1950s. Having largely removed the problems of SO2 from urban air quality, today's concerns in urban areas are now focused on the effects of traffic pollution.

Recycled materials used to build recycling centre
Recently completed, Hampshire County Council's new household waste recycling centre (HWRC) at Winchester has been hailed as the flagship for recycling and sustainable development, not only in Hampshire but also throughout Southern England. Built on the site of the old Bar End depot, it features an innovative two level rotunda design providing quick and easy access for vehicles. This has been achieved by positioning the waste bays and receptacles at the lower level with the cars unloading from the upper level.

Investment in recycling plant pays off for skip hirer
McKinstry Skip Hire, a family owned business founded in 1969, has responded to changes in the skip hire business over the past few years - not least of which was the effect of the introduction of the Landfill Tax - by establishing facilities in waste treatment to recycle and reclaim the large annual tonnage that the company's fleet of skips and roll-on-off containers was handling. An initial investment in a Powerscreen screening plant some nine years ago saw the establishment of a close and business relationship between McKinstry Skip Hire, Powerscreen International and its dealer McGurk Screening Systems.
