Enbridge Energy Partners reported a cleanup operation is still underway following the leak, which was confirmed on Saturday (January 9) on its Enbridge Lakehead Pipeline System.
A spokesman for the firm said: “The leak, which happened in Pembina County North Dakota, was detected by the Enbridge pipeline control centre, which immediately shut down and isolated it by closing valves upstream and downstream of it.”
Enbridge Energy Partners owns and operates a large portfolio of crude oil and natural gas transportation systems in the United States.
The system’s deliveries to refining centres and connected carriers in the United States account for approximately 11% of total US oil imports, while deliveries to Ontario, Canada, account for 60% of refinery demand in that region.
