Energy company Powergen is tempting amateur inventors to share their bright ideas by offering £50,000 to help get one energy efficient invention into production.

The judging panel is headed up by Trevor Baylis, inventor of the wind up radio and mobile phone charging shoe, and previous winners have included an energy efficient kettle and a modified multi-socket extension cable to cut energy waste from leaving appliances on standby.
