The School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences has its origins in the Northampton Institute of Technology, founded in 1894. With some 1500 students and over a 100 staff, the school offers first class education and research in a carefully selected number of niche areas in engineering and the mathematical sciences. Long-lasting links with professional institutions keeps our courses modern and industrially relevant.
The School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at City University has a well-established reputation in Renewable Energy, Energy Management and Technology. Its substantial research programmes have covered wind, wave, geothermal and other renewable energy sources, offshore oil and gas exploitation, development of novel low temperature heat recovery systems for power generation as well as ground-breaking research in automotive engine development. At the undergraduate level, the School of Engineering has been running a very successful Energy Utilisation and Management BEng programme for a number of years. In postgraduate teaching, it has leading specialists from industry in energy management, conservation technologies, nuclear and renewable energy, on the MSc Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics.
