All Universities will have their performance against targets such as utility consumption and carbon emissions measured, the results of which will impact upon the amount of capital funding that is received from HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England). Nottingham Trent University has a target to reduce carbon emissions by 48% by 2020 based on a 2005/06 baseline. Reputational drivers to reduce consumption and emissions also impact as potential students are taking into account how 'green' universities are when choosing which one to select.
