Stark, a leading provider of smart metering services, is one of only four companies to receive accreditation for the new ESTA code of practice for gas data collection, known as ASPCoP
26 January, 2010 - Stark is one of only four companies, to date, to receive accreditation for the new ESTA code of practice for gas data collection, known as ASPCoP (Automatic Meter Reading Service Providers Code of Practice).
According to ESTA, ASPCoP defines the operations, standards and methods by which metered gas consumption data is read and supplied to customers and energy suppliers.
By providing a regularised system, it ensures that customers have assurance about the installation and data accuracy, as well as the service levels they will receive from ASPs accredited under ASPCoP.
Stark's managing director, Howard Stark, said: "The code of practice is voluntary and we were one of the first to apply because we knew we were already compliant. Over the past five years of gas AMR installations, we have proven that 'doing it right' is the only successful and cost-effective way to work."
Customers who choose an accredited ASP, such as Stark, for their gas AMR will benefit in three ways:
Howard Stark explained how the new code of practice also benefits the industry: "The CoP ensures that we remain responsible for our devices for their lifetime - as other parties may need to connect to them in the future - and that we dispose of old devices responsibly."
