A great solution to the great energy question?
20 May 2008, News release from Western Business Exhibitions
The Energy Event will take place on the 10th and 11th September 2008 at The National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham. It is billed as 'the UK's only annual exhibition and conference to focus solely on energy procurement, management and efficiency, including water efficiency'.
Key to the success of The Energy Event, sponsored by Total Gas & Power is the very popular seminar and conference programme. Hosting conferences and seminars in 2008 will be ESTA (Energy Services and Technology Association), MEUC (Major Energy Users Council), Envirowise, CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers), BCAS (British Compressed Air Society) and the Energy Information Centre (EIC). To view the programme and to sign up for sessions visit: www.theenergyevent.co.uk
Over the two days of the event, ESTA will be running seminars about how companies can save energy and operating costs by applying Energy Management to their buildings and processes whilst MEUC will be looking at Gas and Power Buying and how this can be done wisely. EIC will be hosting an Energy Purchasing & Market Fundamentals seminar for major energy users on both days and experts from EIC will be offering advice on purchasing strategies to manage market exposure via flexible supply contracts.
Envirowise will be considering the important topic of water efficiency while CIBSE will be holding a useful seminar about the role of building services, such as heating, air-conditioning, lighting, communication systems, security systems etc, within the energy matrix.
Running alongside the educational content that is, in the main, provided by trade bodies and associations is the independent Energy Insight conference. The Energy Insight conference program focuses primarily on energy procurement issues but will also touch upon energy management.
Keynote speakers at the free-to-attend conference that runs on both mornings of the event will be Peter Ainsworth, Shadow Secretary of State for DEFRA who is speaking on Day 2 of the event, while John Shead, Managing Director of Total Gas & Power, begins the conference on Day 1.
Aimed squarely at directors and senior management, Energy Insight addresses subject areas that represent where the energy debate is moving to, rather than looking at energy efficient technology and best practice. As such, and evidence of its forward looking nature, David Porter OBE, CEO of the Association of Electricity Producers, will speak about the security of supply, while Mark Dickinson of Encore will address commodity risk management.
Other speakers and topics include: Patrick Heren, CEO, Heren Energy - The UK energy gap Mike Hogg, GM, Shell Gas UK - The future of gas; Jens Boing, VP, Merill Lynch Commodities Europe - Weather derivatives; Philippe Catanet, MD, EDF Major Business - Energy efficiency, the sustainable future
To ensure a place, delegates planning to attend Energy Insight or any of the other seminars and conferences at The Energy Event should register in advance online at www.theenergyevent.com. The full educational program will be available on the website in the near future.
Guaranteeing a great use of time, visitors to the event also get the chance to visit the exhibition that features the top brands in a wide variety of fields. Amongst the 120 exhibitors disciplines such as compressed air, HVAC, lighting, energy monitoring, drives and motors are well represented as are those on the energy procurement, consultancy and purchasing side.
Demonstrating the strength of the event is the fact that Total Gas & Power is the official sponsor for 2008 with other sponsors including: EDF Energy, Encore International, Llumarlite, Shell Gas Direct and The Utilities Exchange. The event this year will once again be carbon neutral with Carbon Clear acting as the event's carbon offsetting partner.
