Why you should become a Smart Energy Employer

Could your home or office be more energy efficient? With smart meters, households and businesses across Great Britain are unlocking the benefits of better energy management.

We are now calling on more organisations in Britain to become Smart Energy Employers by helping their staff to get smart meters installed.

 

Every household is being offered a smart meter from their energy supplier at no additional cost. This is part of a national upgrade to our energy system and will hugely improve the experience of buying energy for everyone.

 

Smart meters bring great benefits for your employees, being able to better manage their home energy use and costs. We speak to thousands of people every year about their experiences, and many tell us how their smart meter is helping them to save.

 

The new technology lets you see what energy you are using in real time, and pounds and pence. Meter readings are also sent automatically, so no more going under the stairs to check the meter or having to rely on estimated bills. 

 

Eight in ten people with smart meters also tell us they are taking steps to use less energy at home as a result of getting a smart meter installed.

 

These new energy behaviours could also translate into the workplace, with more people using less energy here too. Saving money for businesses and potentially encouraging greater engagement with workplace energy programmes.

 

This upgrade is bringing he benefits to our energy system too, as with a digital energy grid we are able to better manage our energy needs and rely more upon renewables. Without smart meters we wont be able to fully take advantage of new technologies like electric vehicles.

 

There are so many benefits to getting involved, including benefits for your employees, your organisation and the nation.

 

We are asking employers to tell their staff about the benefits of this new technology and help us to spread the word. We are already working with nearly 20 organisations including Hilton, the NHS, Tech UK and many others on this campaign – and are keen to work with more of you on this.
