Scientists are investigating the mysterious case of a vanishing glacial lake in remote southern Chile.
The large lake was present and correct when visited by park rangers in March, but when they returned in May all that remained was a dry crater and a few chunks of ice which had previously been floating on the water.
The lake is not seasonal and the possibility that a fissure was opened by seismic activity in the area is the current leading theory in explaining the unusual occurrence.
