18 March 2013, News release from The Eco-Fair Organisers
Rt. Hon. Gregory Barker will deliver a keynote address to delegates attending the Eco-Fair - the North's largest environmental event which takes place on the 9 May 2013 at Elland Road, Leeds.
Mr Barker's parliamentary responsibilities are of great interest to the event's exhibitors and attendees. As the Minister of State for Climate Change his remit covers issues and policies related to climate change.
These include the Green Deal, energy efficiency, feed-in tariffs, carbon budgets, climate science, green jobs and renewable heat incentives amongst others.
At least 1000 delegates are expected to visit the Eco-fair. They will attend more than 35 free seminars covering the latest environmental hot topics and visit a free exhibition showcasing 100 green-themed businesses from across the UK.
Mr Barker's address will follow a 'question time' style debate with a top-level panel consisting of major green business leaders and representatives from regional government.
Sam Saxby, event organiser and head of the Eco-Network said: "We are all extremely pleased to have the Rt. Hon. Gregory Barker on board as a keynote speaker. It's a testament to the size and importance of the event to have a minister take time out of his busy schedule to attend. Not only will he be speaking he will also be taking questions from the floor and visiting the exhibition which is the largest one of its kind in the North of England.
"Everyone attending the event, whether an exhibitor or delegate, shares one collective goal: to reduce the impact of their business on the environment. To have an official from Government show their support in this way is the green cherry on the top of our eco-baked cake."
Also speaking at the event is Business in the Community's sustainability director Alan Knight who will share details on the organisation's new campaign - the £9 Billion Challenge. This aims to help businesses create nine billion poverty-free sustainable lifestyles by 2050.
