Siemens Water Technologies' facility based in Tonbridge, Kent, UK, Chemfeed Limited, has achieved registration to ISO 14001 with the British Standards Institution (BSI).
To achieve accreditation, Chemfeed Limited had to demonstrate to the BSI assessors that it is fully committed to conducting its business operations in an environmentally responsible manner, both in the short and long term.
This included displaying that the organisation has initiatives in place to minimise waste, recycle materials, reduce the risk of pollution and be energy-efficient.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that sets out how an organisation can put in place an effective environmental management system. This framework allows an organisation to understand, describe and control its significant impacts on the environment, reduce the risk of potentially costly pollution incidents, ensure compliance with environmental legislation and continually improve its business operations.
Certification to ISO 14001 means that a third party, such as BSI, has assessed that an organisation has met the requirements set out in the standard.
"We are delighted to be recognised for our efforts," says Mr. Clive Dean, managing director of Chemfeed Limited in Tonbridge. "Implementing such a system has been a significant undertaking; however we believe the benefits are substantial. We have ensured compliance with environmental legislation and regulations, improved overall performance and efficiency, and created a better working environment for our employees. We are fully committed to continually improving our environmental performance."
