Government Plans for New Body to Govern Energy Efficiency

Last updated: 14th November 2018

News has emerged that the Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has decided to create a new directorate, headed up by Ben Golding, dealing exclusively with energy policy - Energy Efficiency and Local Directorate.

Having a team to deal with UK energy policy is much needed, a ‘must do’ and an urgent requirement so it is pleasing news as long as it has teeth and looks at the long term approach. Whilst the scope and remit of the new directorate is currently unclear, for it to be truly effective, all subsequent governments should be forced to continue to implement this long term policy. Equally, all UK energy ‘areas of responsibility’ need to be covered to ensure an overarching and coordinated approach.

It is hoped that this new directorate will provide both the resource and the ability to further the energy efficiency agenda that The Energy Services and Technology Association (ESTA), and many of us in this sector, have been pursuing.
