The Planet Mark  Identifies Seven Sustainable Development Goals Businesses Can Address Without Delay in 2018

The Planet Mark™  has unveiled that its Sustainability Certification measurably contributes to seven of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Whilst recent research has revealed that as many as two in five firms are either ignoring or having no meaningful engagement with the goals, these findings show that businesses, whatever their size, can take action on key SDGs without delay.

Launched in early 2016, the SDGs are a set of ambitious goals agreed by members states of the United Nations to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

The announcement was made at an event held by The Planet Mark™ addressing how business can prepare for the SDGs. Keynote speakers included MP, Mary Creagh, Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee, Louise Scott, Global Sustainability Chief Operating Officer at PwC UK and Piers Bradford, Managing Director of Project Everyone which seeks to put the power of great communications behind the UN’s goals.

The Planet Mark™ Founder, Steve Malkin, said: “Momentum has been building within the business community to take action over the last two years. But latest evidence suggests those efforts could be falling short due to a lack of meaningful and measurable action. We are committed to helping organisations contribute to the SDGs. It is estimated the SDGs could represent a $12 trillion economic opportunity by 2030, through transforming business models to better meet society’s needs Unilever CEO Paul Polman has described them as the "greatest economic opportunity of a lifetime".
