The work carried out for wind turbine manufacturer Vestas by TNS Gallup found 90% of people around the world wanted more renewable energy.

According to Vestas, who revealed two surveys, one called the Global Consumer Wind Study 2011 and the second the Corporate Renewable Energy Index (CREX) 2011.

The Global Consumer Wind Study claims to be the largest of its kind polling around 31,000 consumers in 26 countries about how energy decisions by some of the world’s largest companies affect their choices.

Vestas’ Corporate Renewable Energy Index (CREX) 2011 is based on data from the CREX, a survey commissioned by Vestas and conducted by Bloomberg New Energy Finance of the world’s 1,000 largest listed companies by market capitalisation of which 176 replied.

Taken together Vestas believe the two studies highlight consumer demand, climate change and corporate energy transparency.

Vestas president, Ditlev Engel, said: “Consumers around the world see climate change as the greatest single challenge, and 90% of consumers want more renewable energy.

“This shows a real global desire to reduce carbon emissions … it gives corporate decision makers something to think about and act upon.”
