HACH LANGE wins contract for water quality monitors at Welsh Water
HACH LANGE has been awarded a contract by Black & Veatch to supply water quality monitoring equipment as part of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water's 'Go to Green' programme. The overall project will span three years and is designed to increase drinking water treatment works' resilience and enhance water quality for communities throughout Wales.
The Go to Green Programme is a £100 million investment in a wide range of improvements that will be applied to 15 water treatment works. The programme delivered by Black & Veatch includes design and construction of new treatment facilities, expansion and refurbishment of existing works, and control system upgrades.
Black & Veatch is the main delivery company; responsible for design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the improvements under a collaborative delivery model. Go to Green is an expansion of Welsh Water's AMP5 water quality programme and Black & Veatch's UK Procurement Manager John James says: "We have been one of Welsh Water's framework partners since AMP3, delivering more than 150 design and build projects for Welsh Water. So, this project represents an extension of a longstanding relationship.
"HACH LANGE was recently awarded the contract to supply water quality monitoring equipment following a competitive tendering process in which we assessed each bidder on issues such as product specification, reliability, capital cost, lifetime cost and after-sales service."
The drinking water quality monitoring equipment to be supplied by HACH LANGE will include sensors for the measurement of organic load, turbidity and chlorine.
For the measurement of organic load, HACH LANGE will supply the UVAS plus SC, an immersion probe featuring a multiple beam absorption photometer with effective turbidity compensation, a flash lamp photometer and a built-in wiper which automatically cleans the sensor window. Turbidity will be measured by the 1720E, a continuous-reading white light nephelometric turbidimeter designed for low-range monitoring from 0.0001 to 100.0 NTU. A wall mounted colorimetric analyser, the CL17, will be deployed for the measurement of free chlorine with a measurement range from 0.03 - 5 mg/L free residual chlorine.
