Haigh go down under down under!

North Head sewage treatment plant is situated on the north shore of Sydney Harbour, processing sewage for a population of 1.2m

The plant processes 340ML/d dry weather flows and up to 1400ML/d of storm flow. The treatment plant has seen a $100M upgrade over the past 2 years, with grit removal, screenings handling and many other areas completely refurbished.

Situated 60m below ground in a chamber cut out of the natural rock, the treatment plant is approximately 100m long and 6m high. The main sewer pipe enters the plant a further 100m below this chamber and is pumped up into the inlet channel just below the chamber.

The sewage then flows, under gravity, into 7 No 6mm drum screens. And it is at this point that the Haigh screenings solutions come into effect.

Awarded the contract in 2007, Haigh have supplied the screenings handling plant for processing the screenings removed from the flow by the aforementioned drum screens.
