A blueprint for business leadership: edie launches renewed Sustainable Development Goals report
Sustainability and CSR professionals looking to embed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within their organisation's strategy now have access to a comprehensive new report breaking down exactly how businesses of all sizes and sectors can contribute to all 17 Global Goals.
Five years ago this week, the UN adopted the SDGs – a “universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity”.
With less than 10 years to meet each of the framework’s 17 Global Goals, an ambitious global effort is underway to deliver the 2030 promise. But action to meet the Goals is still not happening at the speed or scale required, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres having warned that Covid-19 is likely to make the achievement of the Goals “even more challenging”.
This new Blueprint report, hosted in association with UK Power Networks Services, combines up-to-date facts and stats with expert insight and real-life case studies, breaking down everything there is to know about each of the Goals.
Specifically, this 21-page report outlines the importance of each specific Goal to sustainable development; illustrates the relevance of the Goals to the business community; and details how organisations within the private sector have taken action against each Goal so far.
As such, it is an invaluable tool for sustainability and CSR professionals working to drive the SDG agenda within and beyond their organisation – and for any other professionals with an interest in this topic, including executives. It is free to download.
It is concluded with an exclusive viewpoint from UK Power Networks Services’ head of energy technology consulting, Alan Thompson. Thompson writes: “For businesses, these goals represent a cross-industry opportunity to achieve ambitious net-zero targets to eliminate net carbon emissions by 2050.
“Achieving net-zero is no longer kept to the confines of corporate white papers. It is a call for a commitment to action and a statement that those who don’t respond to the call will be left behind.”
