A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year from edie!
As 2020 draws to a close and with Christmas on the horizon, the edie editorial team is heading off for a well-deserved break until the New Year. However, we are leaving you with some festive treats to tide you over until 2021 and keep you up to date on the year's biggest green business stories.
As we look forward to another jam-packed year for sustainable business, it’s worth taking some time to reflect on all of the progress that has been made in 2020, despite the obvious challenges. The green recovery movement has been going from strength to strength, net-zero has become a global transition and, throughout it all, individuals have been going above and beyond.
edie has therefore rounded up the top sustainability stories of the year, month by month, – especially for those of you in the mood for reflection. This article includes some of our best-read stories and those which proved the most impactful to the UK’s green economy.
And, if you’re the type to plan ahead and you’re already thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, we’ve rounded up some top tips for making 2021 a ‘super year’ for sustainability. These pieces of best-practice advice were provided by expert speakers from Anglian Water, Business in the Community and EDF Energy during edie’s most recent free webinar – which is now available to stream on-demand.
FYI, our next free webinar is on 21 January and will cover key considerations for installing and investing in technologies that help the net-zero transition, from onsite renewable generation to CCUS. You can find out more and register here.
Readers keen to get into the festive mood, meanwhile, will be happy to know that we’ve lined up several Christmas-themed articles to help you get into the spirit of the season.
The first of these is our Christmas-themed Sustainable Business Covered podcast – a special episode which includes exclusive interviews with Getty Images’s global head of creative insights Dr Rebecca Swift, Modibodi’s chief executive officer Kristy Chong and Levy UK & Ireland’s managing director Jon Davies. What better way to while away your Christmas break than with some inspirational insight from other sustainability professionals?
We have also put together some articles spotlighting the businesses that are helping us to have a sustainable festive season this year, and rounding up the key stats and facts about Christmas-related waste and emissions.
Last but by no means least, there’s also a big fat quiz of the year live on the edie website – because no Christmas would be complete without some trivia. Find out if you’re a low-carbon superstar – or if you need to follow the green business news a little more closely in 2021.
So, that’s it for another year We’ll be back on 4 January 2021 and in the meantime, from all of the edie team, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Luke Nicholls, Matt Mace and Sarah George
