A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year from edie!

As 2018 draws to a close and with Christmas on the horizon, the edie editorial team is heading off for a well-deserved break until the New Year. However, we are leaving you with some festive treats to tide you over until 2019 and keep you up to date on the year's biggest green business stories.

As we look forward to another successful year for sustainable business, it’s worth reminding ourselves of the great lengths many organisations went to drive positive progress over the past 12 months – not just from within their own operations, but through ground-breaking collaborations and industry-wide commitments.

edie has therefore rounded up the top ten sustainability stories of the year – especially for those of you in the mood for reflection. This article includes some of our best-read stories, and those which proved the most impactful to the UK’s green economy.

As for innovation, we’ve also put together a list of the top ten most promising new technologies of the year which could help businesses, cities and nations deliver on carbon, waste or water reduction. This is an interactive list, so be sure to have your say and vote for your favourite.

Readers keen to get into the festive mood, meanwhile, will be happy to know that we’ve lined up several Christmas-themed articles to help you get into the spirit of the season.

The first of these is our Christmas-themed Sustainable Business Covered podcast – a special episode which includes exclusive interviews with Landsec’s head of sustainability Caroline Hill, Olam Cocoa’s vice president for sustainability Simon Brayn-Smith and The Body Shop’s international CSR director Christopher Davies. What better way to while away your Christmas break than with some inspirational insight from other sustainability professionals?

Those looking to escape the commercialisation of Christmas and find out if brands are able to use the occasion to promote purpose – not products – will also be pleased to know that we’ve published a piece outlining how six businesses are using the occasion to champion CSR. You can read that article in full here.

Our final Christmas-themed article takes a look inside the UK’s Christmas waste problem – and explores the steps you can take to have a more resource-efficient celebration, from puddings to plastic packaging. Click here to read that story in full.

For readers particularly keen to set a New Year’s resolution ahead of time, edie’s editorial team has also rounded up nine tips for those looking to transform their organisation’s approach to CSR in 2019. These pieces of advice were drawn from a recent webinar on business leadership featuring representatives from Canary Wharf Group, Ball Corporation and PwC.

And for those looking to keep their sustainability hat on before they return to the office in 2019, there’s also a big fat quiz of the year live on the edie website. Find out if you’re a low-carbon superstar – or if you need to follow the green business news a little more closely in 2019.

So, that’s it for another year We’ll be back on 2 January 2019 and in the meantime, from all of the edie team, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
