ANC pays town’s water bill

The ANC in Mpumalanga recently intervened to help the small farming town of Leandra, which was entering its fifth week of severe water shortages, as it was unablt to pay its water bill.

The party stepped in after the province’s local government department refused to bail out the town, which had its water supply cut by 80 percent in October 1998 when it failed to settle its ZAR 1.4 million (US$ 246,000) bill with Rand Water.
