BIG Recycle returns
A campaign that aims to turn the public on to recycling is set to return for its third year.
Funding is in place for the national event will see a programme of activities all over the country which will encourage the public to recycle more household waste in an attempt to push on towards the UK’s 2016 municipal solid waste (MSW) recycling targets.
Although public recycling is rising steadily there is still a long way to go to meet European’s targets.
The year’s campaign will launch on June 5th and will combine high-profile celebrity support with local activity across the country, to inspire a wide audience to recycle more waste, more often.
Last year over 400 local authorities were involved in the campaign which inspired events all over the country, from fashion shows to gigs.
Julie Brown, a spokeswoman for the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) said: “The BIG recycle has established itself as one of the highlights of the recycling calendar.
“The reaction of local authorities, members of the public, retailers and the media to last year’s campaign was phenomenal. It helped to create a huge surge of interest in household recycling.
“We’re aiming to attract even more participants this year, to ensure that the campaign is bigger and better than ever.
“We’re particularly keen to hear from sponsors at this stage. Given the profile and importance of the campaign, organisations stand to gain real benefits from being allied to the BIG recycle 2006.”
A dedicated website also contains information on recycling at home as well as links to several sites promoting recycling as a fun, socially responsible activity.
