The Renewable Fuels Agency made the announcement yesterday (15 July) in initial information covering fuel supplied to UK forecourts.

The target of 2.5% was beaten with business reaching 3.25% this created a 47% reduction in greenhouse gases compared to fossil fuels, again beating the government target of 40%.

However, a target of 30% for the sources of the fuel to meet sustainable sources was missed coming in at 24%.

RFA chief executive, Nick Goodall, said: “These results have made tangible the evidence that sustainable biofuels are possible.

“However, some companies have failed to show a commitment to sourcing fuels that meet the required standard.

“Overall, companies were well above the target for the amount of information reported this year, demonstrating that the RFA’s world leading reporting system is working.”
