To energy efficiency and far beyond

Businesses are under pressure to minimise business energy costs, cut carbon emissions and improve resilience, so it comes as no surprise that 90% of large company CEOs are engaging with energy efficiency.

To energy efficiency and far beyond

Although reducing consumption and behaviour change are the foundations of any energy strategy, we mustn’t forget that this is just the starting point in the sustainability journey.

The power of data insights

It’s encouraging to see from edie’s latest Business Energy Barometer that up to 82% of businesses see the value of data optimisation to take energy efficiency to the next level. By using the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to gain advanced energy insights, organisations can identify energy waste across multiple sites – right down to an equipment and process level.

In this way, huge energy and operational efficiency improvements can be achieved, but business leaders can miss a trick if they fail to use data intelligence to inform Demand Side Response (DSR) opportunities. The 57% of survey respondents who fail to see DSR as a priority are missing out on potential cost savings and lucrative revenue streams from using power more flexibly.

Game-changing AI Virtual Power

Similarly, the vast majority of businesses surveyed as part of the barometer are overlooking artificial intelligence (AI), which provides the game-changing opportunity to participate in advanced virtual power plants (VPP). Our AI VPP technology is helping businesses to capture multiple trading opportunities in the most lucrative markets using large industrial loads, onsite generation and storage. This advanced solution is also increasing the security of power supply.

Enabling Electric Vehicles

We’re also using IoT and AI to help organisations shift to sustainable transport by integrating their electric vehicle infrastructure with onsite generation and storage facilities and to maximise the payback via DSR and energy optimisation.

edie’s Business Barometer

edie’s third Business Barometer for 2019 sets out the key challenges and opportunities for energy leaders and managers going into 2020 and the next decade of climate action.

Inspired by edie’s Energy Leaders Club and developed in association with Centrica Business Solutions, this third Business Energy Barometer report aims to spark new ideas and actions among forward-thinking energy specialists, and compare recent data to the previous Barometer survey in May.

It is based on the results of an in-depth survey carried out online across November 2019, which garnered 61 responses from in-house energy managers and practitioners working across all of the UK’s major industries.
