Bord Gais increase market electricity share

Bord Gáis Energy now has 20% of the Irish domestic electricity market following its campaign 'The Big Switch', which launched just 12 months ago.


The firm, which was targeting 60,000 new residential electricity customers in year one, achieved that target in just 60 days and has now reached over 300,000 homes in 12 months.

The business jumped into the market and launched the campaign following deregulation of the Irish electricity market as a result of an EU Directive.

This allowed Bord Gáis Energy to enter the residential electricity market in Ireland in February 2009, from where it has not looked back.

A spokesman for the company said: “The Big Switch is one the most successful national marketing and sales campaign of its kind anywhere in the world.”
