Business leaders talk zero waste at Sustainability Leaders Forum 2011

Coca-Cola Enterprises, InterfaceFLOR and Manchester United FC will reveal how their organisations are tackling zero waste at edie's Sustainability Leaders Forum on 3 November at The Hurlingham Club, London.

These pioneering companies have all embraced the journey towards zero waste and are now looking beyond this, by achieving further efficiency savings through waste minimisation and engagement with their supply chains and customer base.

Speakers include Nick Brown, commercial recycling manager for Cola-Coca Enterprises, who will focus on joint ventures with the waste industry, packaging optimisation and inspiring consumers to recycle more.

InterfaceFLOR’s senior vice president for product & innovation, Nigel Stansfield, will give an overview of the company’s ‘Mission Zero’ strategy and achievements to date including generating £438M savings in avoided waste costs.

Meanwhile lead environmental advisor to Manchester United FC, Michael Goodfellow-Smith, will look at the scale of opportunity around the journey towards zero waste, and outline some of the initiatives the football club has implemented in its waste reduction drive.

The zero waste session, which will be chaired by CIWM chief executive Steve Lee, will run alongside a zero carbon session at the event in the afternoon. Both sessions follow on from a morning plenary looking at the political landscape driving waste and energy reduction, and opportunities and challenges for businesses in implementing sustainability programmes.

The morning keynote will be given by Lord Redesdale, LibDem peer and chair of the Anaerobic Digestion & Biogas Association (ADBA). Other morning speakers include Michael Lunn, director of policy at the Environmental Industries Commission, Andrew Raingold, executive director at the Aldersgate Group, and Dr Thomas Fischer, European head of environmental affairs at Sony.

An early bird booking rate of £99 for the event applies before 17 September. To find out more and to book your place, go here

The Sustainability Leaders Forum is being held on the same day and at the same venue as the edie Awards for Environmental Excellence. Table bookings for the awards are now live, and special discounts will apply if delegates wish to attend both events.
