According to energy supplier npower using information based on previous years last Wednesday (September 14) should have seen homes turning up the heat.

But the company said today (September 20) that based on calls to its boiler support team people are delaying the switch on until at least September 27.

The date was chosen after researching telephone data from npower’s Burton call centre.

npower head of operations, Chris Thewlis, said: “Residents are becoming more energy savvy and this delayed switch-on date could indicate one of two things.

“Either energy efficiency measures which help to keep homes warm, such as loft installation and cavity wall insulation, are on the increase or homeowners are choosing to save energy by avoiding putting the heating on just yet.”
