Circular Economy Week: edie kicks off week of zero-waste themed content and events

The week will provide edie readers with an array on insight as to how to embrace the circular economy

Brought to you in association with ERP UK and Zero Waste Scotland, the content-driven campaign will support sustainability and resource efficiency professionals on our collective mission to eliminate single-use plastics and transition to closed-loop models, products and services.

The Circular Economy Week is aimed at sustainability and resource efficiency professionals who are looking to make 2021 the year that they focus on resource efficiency, including single-use plastics, e-waste and water stewardship. It will include an array of exclusive interviews and blogs, insight reports, podcasts and a brand-new online event. 

Online event

On Thursday 25 March, edie will bring its audience an afternoon of live, interactive webinar presentations and discussions – all dedicated to accelerating the transition to a zero-waste economy. Speakers include representatives from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Ikea, the Body Shop and more. Click here to register for the online event. (Please note tickets cost £49).

The online event effectively combines three edie webinars into a single afternoon, with each webinar session taking a particular format ranging from Q&A styled debates with circular economy experts, business-led panel discussions and a masterclass.


During the week, edie will publish an update to its “Single-Use Plastics: The roadmap for sustainable business” report, to account for the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on supply chains, operations and efforts to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics. The report includes a foreword from Planet Patrol’s founder Lizzie Carr, who will be interviewed by edie during the week for a special #SustyTalk video episode.

Additionally, edie will publish a guide on Sustainable Offices and how businesses can embrace the circular economy as part of the office of the future as the UK exits lockdown. An accompanying feature speaking to organisations who have strived to make their offices more sustainable will also be published.

Interviews and blogs

Two more SustyTalk video interviews will be published this week. edie will speak to Biffa’s head of environment and external affairs, Jeff Rhodes and Kao Corporation’s senior vice president for ESG Dave Muenz.

An array of features will be published throughout the week, including deep dives into the UK’s waste mountain, round-ups of how businesses are improving water reuse and how the circular economy can improve social sustainability across the value chain.

Blogs have also been created by leading sustainability representatives from the likes of Coca-Cola HBC and Suntory Beverage and Food GB&I (SBF GB&I) on how businesses can improve sustainability in this area.


Finally, on Friday 26 March, edie’s Sustainable Business Covered podcast will continue, featuring an array of exclusive interviews with Walgreens Boots, Techmet, Circle Economy and Zero Waste Scotland, all focused on efforts to date to phase-out single-use plastics and transition to a circular economy and what that means for the net-zero transition.

Plastic Pledges

In addition to hosting content that supports businesses with their single-use plastics phase-outs, the Mission Possible Plastics Hub will be encouraging sustainability professionals to submit new commitments to tackle plastic pollution on the Mission Possible Pledge Wall.
