Clothing chain goes green
Renewable energy pioneers, Good Energy Group, will provide international clothing retailer SuperGroup with 100% renewable electricity, under a new contract starting today (August 1).
Good Energy Group (GEG), which provides over 26,000 homes and businesses with green power, will now supply energy to over 70 of SuperGroup’s UK shops, warehouses and offices.
Under the new contract, SuperGroup – owner of Cult clothing stores and the Superdry brand – will also benefit from GEG equipment and software to facilitate better energy management across the organisation.
SuperGroup’s Chas Howes said the company was committed to reducing its environmental impact across the board and hailed the new contract as a “paradigm shift” for SuperGroup, as they switch from “being the customer of a large utility to being the partner of a renewable energy provider.”
Mr Howes added: “Good Energy offered us value in a way that fulfils our need for competitively priced energy with meeting our desire to become a more sustainable organisation.”
Good Energy Group is the brainchild of Juliet Davenport, who founded the company in 1999. Since then, the organisation – the only solely renewable electricity company in the country – has won numerous accolades for its environmental agenda.
Ms Davenport said that the new contract was good news for both the environment and for GEG shareholders, as it represented a sales increase of 3.5 per cent for the company.
“SuperGroup is one of the fastest growing international retailers with several high-street brands to its name,” said Ms Davenport. “It is fantastic to see how successful mainstream brands are now starting to demonstrate real commitment to a renewable energy future by choosing Good Energy.
“We look forward to working closely with them in the future to help them make a difference to climate change.”
