As part of the plan to develop a network of “Local Environmental Champions”, the partnership has established an online hub where people can organise meetings and co-ordinate local action.

The scheme will also provide more direct assistance, for example securing meeting places, producing communication materials and organising health and safety meetings.

“At Keep Scotland Beautiful, we want to bring together a national coalition of interests determined to do what is necessary to make Scotland a cleaner, greener and more sustainable country,” said chief executive Derek Robertson.

“As part of that ambition, we welcome this new partnership with Coca-Cola Enterprises, deepening their support for us after their early endorsement of our Clean Up Scotland Campaign.”

Jim Fox, associate director of public affairs at Coca-Cola Enterprises, said: “We are delighted to be working with Keep Scotland Beautiful, one of Scotland’s leading charities for the environment.

“Keep Scotland Beautiful is a ‘hearts and minds’ organisation which communicates and connects with thousands of people across the country, particularly through community engagement.

Despite being rapped for its high water usage, Coca Cola has involved itself in several positive initiatives in the last week, notably attempting to improve plastic recycling.
