Composting experts support soil event

The Composting Association has announced it will be among the big-name environmental organisations supporting a major event for the soil industry.

The Soils in the Developed Landscape event, taking place in March, is aimed at those responsible for specifying, designing and using soils in construction and landscaping.

Organised by Envirolink Northwest, the two-day conference is sponsored by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the Institute of Professional Soil Scientists (IPSS).

The event, at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, will bring together experts and professionals from the soil science, landscaping and recycling sectors.

Jeremy Jacobs, development director for the Composting Association, said the event will be a major opportunity for the organisation to promote its work and the benefits of using PAS 100 compost.

He said: “While there is undoubtedly increasing awareness of the vulnerability of the world’s natural soils, we must do all that we can to reinforce the message that using manufactured topsoil enriched with PAS 100 green waste compost is a win-win solution.

“It helps conserve an increasingly scarce resource while providing a beneficial use for what would otherwise be a waste product.

“The majority of our members are compost producers and they will be expecting this to be a key message from the event.”

This first day of the conference will include presentations from speakers from the soil science, landscape and recycling sectors covering topics such as soil functionality, quality assurance, and the sustainable use of soils on construction sites.

Day two of the event will give delegates the opportunity to take part in site visits to see first hand how compost and soils can be produced.
