Cradle-to-cradle movement gathers pace in UK

A new cradle-to-cradle (C2C) collaboration in the UK could make it easier for companies to derive value from their sustainability strategies.

The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Anglo-Dutch EMG CSR Consultancy have announced a strategic partnership to increase awareness among British businesses of the C2C certified products programme.

The progamme is one of the most influential circular economy systems applied by product manufacturers and designers to drive innovation and help redefine product quality.

EMG founder Daan Elffers said that in the UK, businesses are advancing rapidly in terms of sustainability, and that mainstream transition to a circular economy model is a logical next step.

“More and more companies are realising that they have a choice to make their products and processes good rather than simply ‘less bad’ which is exactly what cradle to cradle certified is all about,” he said.

The C2C programme rewards continuous improvement across four other quality categories – material health, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

President of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, Bridgett Luther, added that the partnership with EMG would be an important step towards generating similar success stories in the UK.
