CSR director Matt Sexton leaves B&Q
Matt Sexton has left his position as director of corporate social responsibility (CSR) at B&Q, following a restructuring of the DIY chain's sustainability division.
Sexton, who spent 14 years with the Kingfisher-owned B&Q, departed on Friday (20 February). edie understands that he will not be replaced, with the group’s CSR team now reporting into head of omni-logistics and CSR Mandy Winser.
A spokesperson for B&Q confirmed: “We can confirm that Matt Sexton left the business on 20 February 2015. We would like to thank him for his contribution to B&Q over the years, and we wish him every success in his future career.”
During his time at B&Q, Sexton worked in a number of commercial roles before taking on the role of director of CSR around five years ago. Since then, he and his team have driven a number of major CSR programmes, including One Planet Home – its overarching plan to become more sustainable – and the Kingfisher group sustainability programme Net Positive.
“Net Positive is part of Kingfisher’s Create the Leader strategy, and we remain committed to delivering leadership in this field through our One Planet Home programme as we have done for over 20 years,” the spokesperson added.
Sexton has not yet moved into another job, but the spokesperson said he is now “pursuing fresh opportunities in corporate sustainability”. edie contacted Sexton for more information on his plans, but had received no reply at the time of publication.
B&Q was the big winner at edie’s 2014 Sustainability Leaders Awards, taking home three awards on the night: Carbon Management; Stakeholder Engagement; and Sustainable Packaging. Judges praised B&Q for having “sustainability wrapped around the core of its strategy” and for its overall willingness to transform the green credentials of the entire home improvement industry.
