Carbon Price Floor

DEFINITION: A policy which imposes a tax on fossil fuels in a bid to provide an incentive to invest in low-carbon power generation. It aims to provide a stable carbon price by setting a universal minimum price for greenhouse gases emitted by power generators. The Carbon Price Floor was introduced in the UK in 2013, to support the EU Emissions Trading System.
