System inertia

DEFINITION: A steady balance between energy production and consumption at any given moment – also known as grid stability. In most cases, grid operators can only measure system inertia using estimates. System inertia is hard to achieve due to both predictable changes in demand, such as the daily patterns of human activity, and unexpected changes from equipment overloads and storms.
