Statistics gathered from local authorities all over the country have been released by Defra to show how municipal waste is being managed.

The estimates look at municipal waste from 2005/06 and overall arisings have fallen by 3%.

Recycling rates have increased nationwide, and regional variations show London and the North East at the bottom of the heap with the East of England, East Midlands and the South West topping the recycling chart.
